My Unique Neighbor

I don't really know where to start to describe this neighbor of mine. First, I should say that I live in an older neighborhood right in the middle of a 20,000 populated town. The neighborhood consists of houses built around 1950s or so. It is quiet and for the most part I love it.

When I moved to the neighborhood in 2006 the house across from me was occupied by an old Vietnam vet named Marvin. He was a pretty odd dude. My first real interaction with him was one spring when I was listening to weather reports on the TV and tornado watches were out. The guy busts up to my door and beats on it. I answer it and the tornado sirens start going off and this man is yelling at me to come get in his basement.

I agree to go to his basement. Inside it is full of sharp objects and saws and crazy things of the sort. I was petrified this man was going to kill me the entire time. Well, he didn't. But anyway...from then on although weird he was quite nice.

Fast forward about three years...the house goes into foreclosure some of my other neighbors bought the place and totally remodeled it. It is currently for sale. While it is for sale my neighbors are letting their cracked out daughter live in it.

She paces the upstairs window sometimes and screams for what seems like an eternity. She washes her hair outside in the outdoor spiket and hose. She wanders the alleys and quite often a patrol car is around when she is randomly roaming the streets of our neighborhood.

So what happened to Marvin? If I had to chose between Marvin and the crack-daughter I would definitely choose Marvin.

Interesting story behind Marvin...he left to go to Ohio to do some roofing. While he was gone his daughter moved into the house. She was super trashy. She had this wonderful boyfriend who had a yellow jeep. On a daily basis he would be outside doing work on the jeep. I think he only had one casette tape and it was Ginuwine's Pony. He played it over and over again. On good days he would be out in coveralls yelling and chasing her kids around the yard. They'd be running around the dirt with no shoes and diapers. Boy, I miss those two. Eventually they were kicked out because Marvin lost the house. I have no idea what happened to good ol veitnam vet, Marvin after that.

Man, sometimes I feel my street is waaaaaay to normal. It's like Mayfiel Place without the weirdos. Lots of retired people. And those who go to work are just...normal.

Maybe there's something interesting going on behind those curtains? Gotta do some snooping around.

Wow, that's some really cool stories. You have an interesting neighborhood. The one I'm in now used to be, not so much anymore. It's all people like Walter now. Man do they get judgmental if your grass gets the least bit too high.

Marvin does sound like a cool guy...even if you had a pretty horrifying first encounter. haha
