Every time I watch the Burbs! The COUNT thread...

You know it, you're a burbs fanatic, well..at least I know I am, so I thought I'd abuse this forum by making a count thread, counting how many times I actually watched the Burbs.

Now...the easy thing, would be to throw out some fake numbers out there, like...I watched the Burbs 100 times, or maybe 2000 times....how do you even know that I did? Or even more important....does it even matter to you that I did? or watched it for the umpteen time? No...I bet not...but, it is a phenomena, and you guys have watched it 100ś of times too I bet, so I'm going to justify this thread with some value to each time I watch the Burbs

(because ...seriously..,..I do watch it quite a lot, like ...today)

Rules: each post, have to contain whatever you felt, saw, noticed, thought of...etc...when you watched the burbs today, yesterday doesn't count...you HAVE to post when you actually watched it...not yesterday, not 2 years ago...but today...when you actually watched it...post your feelings, I know I will...so the next post...I'll get you started, aight?

Re: Every time I watch the Burbs! The COUNT thread...

Today I watched the burbs, it was the last day of August, albeit ...I've probably watched the burbs a gazillion times, I watched it again this day, and I'm about to post a post for each time I watch the burbs and explain what I feel in this thread, kind of like a BURBS diary...if you like.

I watched the burbs today. 1.

Didn't watch it all to the end as I know how it ends, but I watched the first parts, like the paperboy introduction, walters dog taking a dump on rumsfields lawn again, ray peterson gloating over his observation about this to his wife while commenting on the klopeks lawn and yard that seem to be overgrown and seedy.

At the same time, I was thinking of my very own lawn, the grass have grown way too big, but this is due to the sickening amount of rain we have had these last few weeks, hardly a chance to paint the window frames of my house or get anything related to the yard....done at all.

I used to watch it almost every Saturday morning for years, then stopped watching it for about 5 years. Watched it last night again in the bedroom. Fell asleep about the time Art comes in for breakfast with the Peterson's (I know - didn't make it far). I will likely watch more of it tonight.

5 years?!?!? emoticon how did you manage that (my guess...life came in the way?) emoticon

Last time I watched it, was this Saturday too, went into my special indoor-gardening area and fell asleep while the movie ran. Will probably watch it this coming Friday after working at the school, (yes ...I'm kind of like Art, a teacher at the local schools)

Yes, indeed, life got in the way. It happens, but like a faithful friend, the Burbs is always there for you. Still my all time favorite.

Re: Every time I watch the Burbs! The COUNT thread...

During a summer period a couple of years back I watched it twice a day (ones when i woke up and ones when i got back home at night).

This was during a 10 week summer vacation so that makes it 10x7x2 = 140 times.

When I was younger I saw it on TV when it was on (roughly twice/year) but then I got a hold of a tape and watched it at least once/week for maybe 2-3 years (this was before the "famous" summer record).

All in all my honest estimate is that i watch this movie a total of 300 times(or perhaps even more then that), most recently last weekend. The weather was !@#$ over here in Sweden, rain and wind all over the place so I got in the bed and watched my all time favorite movie once again.

It's by far the movie I watched most times, and I have a strange thing about watching new movies, I rather rewatch old classics that I know are good.

Is this strange behavior? Well I guess it is on any other place on earth except in our little community emoticon

Burbs fan for life! emoticon

Burbs fan for life, indeed! emoticon

I watched it again today after coming home after a hard days work as a substitute teacher, painted the window frames all weekend, and even though it's Thursday...I'm still tired after all that effort...

...nothing like relaxing with a few hundred beers (2 actually, just quoting Hanks..he he), in front of the tv, watching the burbs for the umpteen hundred time, it never NEVER gets old.

And like you - mr. Pathologist, I too...have this strange affinity for rather re-watching old movies than the new ones, I don't really know why...but every time I watch new movies it sort of turn me totally off.

Maybe we should visit a shrink or something, it's weird..but it's wonderful that I'm not alone in feeling like this emoticon

I totally get what your saying, there are some movies (and songs) that I can watch/listen and it never gets old.

Well I have to admit that I might probably be the one who has least watched The Burbs. It was not before 2004 when I discovered the magic of the movie. Watched it on TV one night and instantly became a fan. So I bought the DVD. Then the following thing happened: It was a time in my academic studies that was actually very tough for me. The exams were hard and difficult, I was running out of motivation and even thought about dropping out of university.

But whenever I watched The Burbs, this feeling was gone. Life just felt easier afterwards. And there were thoughts like

"Hey, you want to live in a house like Ray one day, too, so pull yourself together!"

"Hey, Ray is having stress, too, you're not the only one who simply want to take a week off."

"You don't always have to be perfect. You should take life as it comes, like Art does and not worry too much about everything."

And so on.

So "The Burbs" indeed contributed in finishing my studies and make me the person I am today.

Sorry for deviating from the original thread.

Starting in 2004 and considering the time when I watched The Burbs quite often in order to help me learning for my studies and properly behaving in my internships I estimate that I have watched it about 100 times.

Next time I watch it, I'll post it here.
