Your theories on the green lights

Here's mine:

"Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning. Red sky at night, sailor's delight." This is the original saying.

--> Here we have two different conditions. One is positive for the sailor, the other one is negative.

"Green sky in the morning, neighbour take warning. Green sky at night, neighbour take flight."

--> If "take flight" means something like "run away" or "escape", then we have two negative conditions. No matter if it's morning or night, green lights are ALWAYS a bad sign (for the neighbours). So whenever there's a green light it means: be careful! And usually the green lights are somehow connected to: The Klopeks!

Maybe Olsen / Dante wanted to give a hint that the Klopeks are really sinister beings and not as innocent as Bonnie and Carol believed they'd be.

Re: Your theories on the green lights

Some scenes where the green lights can be seen:

- When Hans Klopek is putting out the garbage (and banging the hell out of it with a stick) there is green light on the driveway coming from the side of the house (possibly upstairs window). It can't be the one in the garage since it appears even before the garage door opens.

- There is also a green light in the garage itself which you can see when the Klopeks "go to the university".

- In Ray's dream, green lights light up the faces of people doing the ritual.

So I'd say this is no coincidence.

Yes this is why I don't believe this is an effect in order to create a certain mood. It HAS to be a message.

This doesn't seem to help much but:

The Color Psychology of Green

    * Green is a cool color that symbolizes nature and the natural world.

    * Grean also represents tranquility, good luck, health, and jealousy.

    * Researchers have also found that green can improve reading ability. Some students may find that laying a transparent sheet of green paper over reading material increases reading speed and comprehension.

    * Green has long been a symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century. Even today, green M & M's (an American chocolate candy) are said to send a sexual message.

    * Green is often used in decorating for its calming effect.
For example, guests waiting to appear on television programs often wait in a “green room” to relax.

    * Green is thought to relieve stress and help heal. Those who have a green work environment experience fewer stomachaches.

    * Consider how green is used in language: green thumb, green with envy, greenhorn.

I wonder if a lot of couples paint their bedrooms green...hmmm

hahaha total opposite of evil.

I think it's just to set a mood. None of the lights make sense as part of the story. Remember the neon colors used in horror movies of the time. Colored lights were used to set mood around that time. See? Creepy!

maybe they just liked to have a theme. like "pride and prejudice" has a lot of brown/gold/sand colour (art nouveau)

"hard candy" as a lot of clear, crisp colour.

if i ever make a movie, i'd like to experiment with a lot of orange and brown light.

Maybe one of our new members is willing to give us his / her opinion about the green lights and what Dante was going to tell us with them?
