Are there any Band Geeks here?

I'm a band geek, I admit it... I've been in band since I was 10 (I'm 16 now) and I play the clarinet. Are there any other band geeks here? Past or present? At my school, marching band is mandatory...

I've been going to band camp at school in the evenings to dust off my marching skills. I'm tired, even the Klopeks won't be able to wake me up once I pass out from exhaustion!

Really? I've played the clarinet for five years and I have a year's experience on the trumpet. I tried the piano, but I have a hard time multi-tasking. Music's been a big part of my life for so long. I love it. Though the marching part is very tiring.

Band geeks at my high school aren't really considered geeks. There are popular guys and gals and some not so popular. If any of of are seriously taunted for being in band, there are 250 other members who will back us up. emoticon

I've played in bands since I was sixteen. Im a drummer. Ive played in rock bands, played biker festivals, rock and blues festivals, Ive been in club bands, pub bands (playing Oasis, Radiohead, Coldplay etc...) Im currently in a RUSH tribute band. We'll be gigging this year as we've nearly completed the set. Very high-tech (as anyone who knows Rush will tell you!). I have a kit comprising 8 drums, 6 or 7 cymbals, double bass pedals and a Roland SPD6 pad that can trigger samples, electronic drums....basically anything...

I have complete respect for drummers/percussionists. I can't multi-task to save my life, I can't do the whole bass drum, snare, cymbal... yeah it's not very pretty.

Art, I tip my hat to you. *tips hat*

Funny thing...it's an often dismissed art...

BUT just like you can blow a trumpet, you can play a trumpet, you can strum a guitar, you can play a guitar, you can hit a drum - you can play the drums. And believe me, when you go to see a band, if the drummer ain't good, it'll be the first thing you note - not the singer, not the bassist, etc...it just all falls apart.

You have to have a rock steady rhythm section. Without it, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page...all will sound crap. It's the cornerstone.

But some drummers have elevated themselves above and beyond. Buddy Rich for one. Neil Peart for another, arguably the greatest drummer on the planet. This is who I am emulating!!!
