Ready Player One
Time to bring a new post in this thread. I'm currently reading "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline and have finished the first 100 pages.
What a great book so far.
Here's the summary:
quote: In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.
And here's the little bit longer synopsis:
http://readyplayerone.com/synopsis
The book is full of 80's culture references, especially literature, music and video games. Nerds and geeks like me will find thousands and thousands of references in this book.
Highly recommended if you want to give it a try.
I also read that Steven Spielberg will direct the movie which is about to be released based on the book.

Re: Ready Player One
I just finished reading that! It was so great. I hope they don't muck up the casting in the upcoming movie (I want a properly curvy Art3mis, and if they miscast Aech's IRL persona, I'm rioting).

Finished 1/2 now.
Here are two actors I can imagine as
Wade Watts:

Art3mis:

What do you think?

Re: Ready Player One
Just finished the book.
For me one of the most fun to read books ever. Every 80's nerd must be in heaven while reading this.
Really looking forward for the theatrical version of this although I wonder if it might be difficult to buy the rights for adapting it 1:1. There's so much stuff in it from movies like "Wargames" or "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" to computer games like the old classics "Joust", "Tempest", "Adventure" or "Pac Man" to music from Rush and AC/DC and not to forget the old role playing game "Dungeons & Dragons" as well as all those robots from old japanese movies or cartoons (Mechagodzilla?). If they really manage to get all these elements into one movie it's gonna be a whole lot of fun.
