I think I read this page years ago, but I'd totally forgotten about it. So I'm enjoying going through it again emoticon

When I saw the title of your thread, I thought it was gonna be a post where we keep listing things that we llve about The Burbs until we get to 100 (or beyond). That could be fun too!

---
I've never seen that.

Thanks for the link, HinkleyHillsResident, I've never seen that before. Wow, they already compiled a lot and it surely will cover a lot of what we'd suggest but why not trying our own list. OK, I'll just start:

100.) The Burbs is the movie with the highest re-watchability ever.

99.) Whenever you're feeling down, watching The Burbs is like taking an anitdepressant.

You've got a winning idea there neighbor, and I'm going to EGO-trip and write all the 100s of my own reasons, right now, because I love the movie so much I even bought my own house in my own Cu-De-Sack based on it, so this will be a breeze:

My top 100 reasons to love the Burbs:

100: The movie reminds me of my childhood days with friends in the neighborhood.
99: It's a scary movie without being scary.
98: Anyone can watch it, regardless of religion, political beliefs, creed or race.
97: It's an 80s movie, enough reason right there.
96: Rumsfeld is sort of a funny character I can relate to when it comes to gadgets.
95: I like Rumsfelds attitude towards the American Constitution, I love the constitution - The right to bear arms and defend my home and family.
94: Ricky Butler reminds me of my own neighborhood friend, a real goofhead you could always party with.
93: I wish I had hair like Ricky Butler, seriously!
92: Ray Peterson is a down to earth person I kind of relate to, I kind of wish I had a Suburbian wife like his...to share my exiting burbs life with.
91: Like the nature of the Burbs, it's friendly with lots of trees.
90: I like the gardens of Hinkley Hills. Well kept, people have lawns to mow.
89: Every street has an old geezer like Walter, who have lived there all his life, everyone needs someone to love to hate without actually hating them, it's a love-hate relation ship, think of that "old geezer" ebeneezer.
88: Green sky tonight! We have that too from time to tome.
87: I like the sound of the shrilling insects in the summer, we have that too, like the Burbs.
86: Love the fact that the street is so clean.
85: And that they have a newspaper boy that doesn't really care. Just like kids in real life.
84: Love the Klopeks house, it's the kind of house I'd buy if I got the chance and had the money, a house like that would cost a FORTUNE in any city.
83: I love the fact that Dave hangs out with Ricky Butler despite the age difference, the kids just play...and that's the innocence I remember from the 80s.
82: Rumsfeld showers his lawn, and his wife tends to the flower, ah surburbian life when its good.
81: Art reminds me of a mental patient...sort of, he's always overplaying things, needs-a-mother mentality...makes him funny.
80: Art also reminds me of a 40 year old guy with the mind of a 12 year old, that's even funnier to me.
79: The fact that America would even allow a guy with Arts mentality own a deadly weapon like a real gun.
78: The casual ways of Carrie Fisher as Carol.
77: The fact that Carol acts so cool and down to earth.
76: Carrie Fishers looks in the 80s.
75: The ideal family (Petersons, a Dog, a Wife and a working stiff husband with a suburbian house and a mortgage).
74: The Neighborhood feel.
73: The Suburbian feel.
72: The comment "Oh, Ricky butler says!" I use that one all the time, mostly internally emoticon
71: And the comment from Rumsfeld: "Why that old fart, he has the BEST lawn on the block, it's because he TRAINS HIS DOG to CRAP in my yard!".
70: The intro music.
69: The silhouette of Rumsfeld when he smokes in the top window monitoring the neighborhood.
68: Ricky Butlers, "No tanline this morning, nice!" comment.
67: Rickys music: Circus of Power: Machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-w5zmmVtVs
66: Rumsfelds comment: Hey Pinnochio, where do you think you're going.
65: And his "Snap your neck" comment as well.
64: Herr DOKTOR's look, Werner Klopek...he looks SO classic.
63: CHIPs bloodshake. Who the HECK ordered the Bloodshake?!
62: Won't you be my Neighbor with Mister Rogers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4nI7AgUKwk
61: The tacky classical 80s cop that doesn't believe a word of what the good guys are saying.
60: When ART discovers that his WIFE is HOME, never mind that his house is burning down...
59: Ricky Butlers PIZZA DUDE! Comment, instant classic!
58: Rumsfelds comment: Hey Ricky, Get that lamo off your lawn.
57: The entire artwork of the Burbs, it's so E.T...it's so Ghostbusters...it's so 80s!
56: The intro model (I've been trying to find that on eBay, wonder if it exist, the model of the entire Hinkley Hills used in the intro-scene).
55: Rays garage, kind of classic...lived in...safe spot that acts like a man-cave.
54: The weather they are having, always sunny...and warm even when it's raining.
53: The "home feel" of the neighborhood and the way people can just walk over to each other, no questions asked. (Innocent times!).
52: No one locks their doors.
51: Art tells Ray to get that mutt off his lawn, and.. Ray tells the dog to go and have a Field Day.
50: And the fact that Art buddies up with Ricky Butler and tells him that he thinks RAY is totally pussywhipped by his wife.

****ARG! Limited by the Posting system in this forum **** Will post the rest in the next post, cut and paste!

Re: 100 reasons why the 'burbs is the best movie ever made.

Here's the rest:

49: When they hit the gas-line.
48: When they bury the walkie talkie.
47: The look on Rumsfelds face when he tries to impress Ray with the SIREN MODE.
46: The fact that Rumsfeld likes Alphabet Cookies, priceless!
45: Freakies! Needless to say, I've tried to find that brand, saw it in a second movie about a cafe that sells SERIALS only! Fun stuff.
44: When Art tries to convince Carol they'll play a s***load of golf and dresses up in the worst golf suit you could imagine.
43: How irritated I became when Carol said "It's YOUR vacation", I thought to myself that it is ALSO HER VACATION, and that RAY could be a LITTLE LESS SELFISH about his vacation and think of his wife to for once.
42: How many times I used RAYS excuse I'm gonna drink a few hundred beers (just to actually Drink a few hundred beers in my home and yard myself) emoticon
41: When Ray asks Dave "is this sweet enough?" and Dave smiles as if he isn't taking his acting role seriously enough.
40: When Ray says "I'm going to change into my vacation cloths" that to me actually sounded like "I'm going to change my vacation toss"...
39: When art dresses up with a branch in order to camouflage himself, worst camouflage - ever!
38: The fact that Tom Hanks kind of looked like he was in his late 20s, while he might in fact have been very young at the time...that still puzzle me today, families started early in the 80s huh?! How can they have a 10yo kid and be 20? O___O
37: The fact that Hans drive the garbage a few feet from the garage, and then toss it in the garbage, banging the hell out of his garbage, I've never seen that...ever!
36: That - THAT old house actually had a motorized garage opener, while the brand new house of RAY doesn't have it and RAY comments on how he wants one.
35: The sidewalks in America are sort of concrete bricks, I've been to the US...and they actually look like that even today, must be an expensive way to make sidewalks, ours are just asphalt.
34: Love the little Thomas Edison Classic BULB shapes the street lights have. Ours are HUGE and industrial.
33: I even love the name of the place, Hinkley Hills.
32: I found it intriguing that Ricky Butler could act so nonchalant over his BANG & OLUFSEN (very VERY expensive Danish Stereo system) and spill paint over it, and not have a care in the world for it. We're talking a system that cost thousands of dollars at the time. Very popular with Hollywood actors.
31: Equally intriguing to see Ricky Butlers home inside (Which we briefly got to see with his girlfriend) and saw that it had old wallpaper and old furniture in there, odd combo with the B&O Stereo I'd say!
30: The fact that Rumsfeld often dresses in his military uniform, despite being off duty.
29: His comments "It, Came with the frame?!" "Hans Christian Anderson, a FINE Christian name!"
28: Hans, the ugliest boy wonder I've ever seen, the beard growing randomly like spikes on his face, being so rangly dangly...etc.
27: Brother Theodore (sometimes I wonder how he kept his Holy name as an actors name, and ended up acting in a horror flick).
26: Brother Theodores looks, oh man...that guy could act as a scarecrow, he's like a sculpted Indian-totempole in real life.
25: The fact that RAY couldn't tell that old ambulance was a bit outdated to belong to ANY hospital, even for the 80s.
24: How Ray actually survived that blast. Only in Hollywood.
23: The fact that Carol actually gets flattered by the "love your hair" comment from Ray, despite the situation.
22: And that ART asks RAY if he wants him to move, that is PRICELESS!
21: Arts gets BLACK nails from getting electrocutes. AFAIK you don't get black nails from electrocuting your entire body, and smoke usually doesn't come from your body...unless you've been fried for real, in which case he would NOT be standing up straight, ah...Hollywood!
20: The tacky look of Ricky Butlers Girlfriend (all rainbow colors, and fluffy hair) all 80s! Love it.
19: Ricky Butlers lame ass comment when he tries to stop the cops from moving forward "there are all these ...people...in my house, eating all of my parents food!". Another instant classic.
18: When Rumsfeld falls of the roof and shoots the car.
17: When all the kids think he did an awesome thing, as if it was all intentional, and Rumsfeld got instant cool-status with the kids. Yeah...that happens!
16: That when anyone starts that furnace, every window in the basement lights up like there is a lightning storm going on down there.
15: When Ray tosses the coffee after the Paper Boy...as if he could hit him back. emoticon
14: The "Yapping" of Queenie to the Opening Music, awesome timing, makes me remember the movie each time.
13: Carols wife when in his dream she says: "Raaaay, Oh raaaayyyy"...now we all think "Bluuuu Raaay, oh BLUUUU RAAAY.."
12: When ART & DAVE eats simultaneously. It's like two 12 year olds!
11: When ART grabs Carols dish and discovers it's actually MUESLI.
10: When Ricky Butler opens the door inside Walters house, smashing the dish ART is holding. "Oh, very nice!"
9: The comment Rumsfeld makes when he asks Ray if he had that thing (Walters toupee!) in his trousers ALL DAY.
8: Equally classical when he's commenting on Rays balls, and thinks that Ray is about to take it literally. emoticon
7: When Carol tells "Tunaneck ART" that he is NOT invited.
6: When Rumsfeld tries to pick a piece of the wallpaper off (I'm thinking, man...you can't do that to someones house) and tries to put it back in place when he discovers he's ripping off the entire wall.
5: When ART spits out that BEE after being chased by the bees, I'm thinking...Did Hollywood remove the stinger from that BEE (Removing the Stinger, puts a death sentence on any beem they will NOT survive this), it might had worked in the 80s, but in todays politically correct society, this would have started a mail-storm to the movie company etc.
4: In South East Asia, we call this type of thing "Bad Karma" Instant classic!
3: Ray crushing beer cans while his nose is partially broken. Carol commenting...oh crush a couple of beer cans, feel better now?
2: The idiotic zooming while Art & Ray realize it's Walters Femur Bone. I can literally feel the MANUAL zoom-ring from the camera (I had a video camera like that back in the 80s, except theirs where probably Panaflex and not video) emoticon
1: Rays comment, Yeah yeah....I'm going to Paris - France, I'm taking the dog for a WALK, okay?!. I often quote him myself when I'm leaving my home here in Sweden.

Now that is a true fanboy, huh? It took me 40 minutes to type the above, and not ONCE did I look at any references or any web pages, or even the movie (other than inside my head). emoticon emoticon
